The Benefits Of Counselling

12 Jul

I know what it's like to struggle and I know how life changing talking therapy can be. I struggled with my mental health in my younger years and having someone to help guide me through my thoughts and feelings was what pulled me through.

That's why I do what I do and why I love what I do. I'm able to give back and help others in the same way that helped me.

If you'd let me I'd love to talk to you about the benefits of Counselling....... Let's talk about it.

The Movement

You may have noticed that more and more people are prioritising mental health in their lives than ever before. People talk about seeing a therapist and getting help for depression, anxiety, trauma, childhood wounds, and other issues to understand themselves better and improve their life.

But you can also seek counselling even if you’re not struggling with a particular mental illness. It may be that you want to change certain behaviours in your life or you feel stuck. You may seek counselling because you may want to improve specific relationships.

No matter what the reasons are, counselling provides many benefits. Here's just a few

benefits of therapy

●    Counselling can increase your self-awareness and bring about an understanding of your automatic thought processes. It can bring awareness to harmful thoughts you may have and the negative consequences of having those thoughts.

●    Working with a counsellor can help you understand why you act a certain way after a particular event or why you constantly feel judged.

●    You may learn how to express your emotions more effectively

●    It may help you understand why you constantly feel the need to prove yourself.

●    You can learn coping skills and mechanisms for when you feel triggered. This allows you to act with more purpose and less out of impulse, anger, and insecurity.

●    Therapy can help you set better boundaries at work or with your friends and family.

wait. there's more

● Counselling can improve your communication skills and help you carry on difficult conversations professionally and personally. It can help you speak more assertively about what you’re looking for in your relationships. For example, you may be able to more confidently address what types of actions hurt you or share what activities may nourish your friendships. Professionally, improving communication skills can help you talk to your boss about salary or your co-workers about better office relationships.

●   You may feel more confident in who you are as a person, in your body, in your skills, in your worth, and feel more confident in how to be your best self.

●    It can improve your self-esteem and body image.

●    You can become more self-validated rather than seeking validation externally

●    You can decrease self-sabotaging behaviours.

even more

●    You will be able to recognise toxic relationships.

●    In counselling, you will learn how to forgive yourself and let go of angry or unresolved feelings for others

●    You may find closure within yourself as opposed to needing closure from someone else

●    You can understand your insecurities and vulnerabilities.

●  You can learn how to make better decisions while considering many different factors within yourself and your responsibility towards others.

●    In counselling, psycho education can help you learn more about the way your mind works.

Counselling provides a safe space for you to recover, understand, evaluate, and discover yourself. It is a place where you can heal from trauma, seek help for depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses or it can help you adjust to a new phase of your life.

Even if you don’t feel like you’re struggling with a mental illness in particular, seeking counselling can help you understand more about the thoughts, actions, and emotions that ultimately compose you as a person.

Counselling and therapy can increase our emotional intelligence as a whole and take more power over our cognitive processes and our own well-being.
